A centennial celebration and garden party for two houses in the Watts-Hillandale Neighborhood.

October, 9 from 2:00-4:00pm

Preservation Durham celebrated the centennial of Watts Hospital in 2008 with a home tour in the Watts Hospital-Hillandale Neighborhood. As we learned then, after 1908, the success of the hospital led to many lovely homes being built in the area around the hospital, now the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Many of the homes we love were built in the 1910s and1920s and extended in all directions from the hospital. Two lovely homes on West Club Boulevard are turning 100 years old this year. At least, that is what the historic plaques say so we are going with that. To celebrate, we are opening the two homes to guests and throwing a garden party. Everyone is invited.

The celebrated homes are at 2511 W. Club Blvd and 2321 W. Club Blvd. The homeowners will be available to share stories and details about their homes. We also invite celebrating nearby homes with historic plaques, some indicating 1922 as well, with an informal walking tour complete with a guide map.

The garden party will be at 1115 Alabama Avenue near West Club Boulevard.

Ponder Durham in 1922 and imagine how great it will be in 2122 when these houses, still standing then, of course, celebrate their bicentennials.
