Built in 1950, the Chesterfield Building was billed as the world’s most modern cigarette factory. The state of the art manufacturing facility was toured by the public and even school children. The building shuttered in 1999, and in the intervening years many redevelopment proposals have come and gone. Today, its redevelopment into office and retail space is nearing completion. Come tour with us – hear about this prominent building’s past and future.
The tour will be combined with the Annual Meeting of Preservation Durham’s membership. At the Annual Meeting, we will update you on our current projects, vote on a slate of new Board Members, and vote on revisions to our organizational bylaws.
This event is free and open to everyone, but we hope to see many of our members there!
