Preservation Durham members and friends gathered at Morgan Imports, corner of Gregson and Peabody Streets, on Friday night, November 9 for the 2007 Preservation Party and Fall Fundraiser. Since the first Preservation Party in 2003, this event has become the kick-off event for the holidays in Durham with style, fun, and excitement all to benefit Preservation Durham! Morgan Imports, at the corner of Gregson and Peabody Streets, not only hosts the party but also donates 10% of their sales proceeds that night to Preservation Durham. Other Peabody Place and Brighleaf Square merchants also contribute prizes to the raffle or a percentage of their party-night proceeds to support Preservation Durham's programs.
Every year, partygoers enjoy delicious food provided by Peabody Place restaurants. Ensembles from the Durham School for the Arts including a steel drum band and the jazz combo Sax in the City provide a festive tone as partygoers shop for holiday gifts for friends, relatives, and maybe even for themselves! Strolling emcee and Durham history mavin Tom Miller challenges partygoers with the ever-popular Durham History Quiz, awarding fabulous prizes for correct answers. Note to trivia players: watch Tom's eyebrows for help with those more difficult questions about the Bull City! Place bids on exciting goods and services offered in the Preservation Party Silent Auction. Prizes donated by our generous sponsors have included items such as a weekend at Topsail Island, a night at a Durham Bed and Breakfast Inn, gift certificates for meals at the Mellow Mushroom, Mad Hatter Bake Shop, Anotherthyme Restaurant, Chamas Brazilian Steakhouse, and many other Durham restaurants, as well as gift baskets for goodies and services from many more Durham businesses. All proceeds of silent auction sales support Preservation Durham's preservation programs.
