Built in 1910, this one-story, turn-of-the-century cross-gabled frame house has a polygonal wrap-around porch and consists of large living & dining rooms, three bedrooms and one bath in approximately 1400 sq. ft. The front porch once had turned porch posts and other details now missing. Decorative scalloped boards adorn each gable, capped off with a pressed tin shingle roof. The entire house has been raised two feet and a new foundation added. The house lies on a corner lot within Durham's Morehead Hill neighborhood, and both the Morehead Hill local historic district and National Register Historic District, making the house eligible for Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits. There is no doubt that 618 Arnette is in need of help. Yet, the payoff to Durham's heritage and the neighborhood will be extremely significant.
