This two-story frame house is the most ornate of Durham's surviving Queen Anne style dwellings. Built around 1890, the 204 Dillard Street home is one of only two surviving structures that represent the elaborate dwellings that formerly lined Dillard, Queen and E. Main streets. The wraparound porch has ornate sawnwork and a gazebo perfect for an afternoon tea party or spending leisure time with friends and family. The downstairs grand entry hall showcases a lovely staircase and woodwork that only needs some loving care. The parlor and formal dining room are to the left of the entry hall and the kitchen is near the back of the house. Between the kitchen is near the back of the house. Between the kitchen and the dining room is a wonderful butler's pantry with lots of storage. To the right of the entry hall are two large rooms that can be family rooms or bedrooms. Upstairs is a large hall and four bedrooms. An upstairs balcony offers a view of downtown Durham. This house can be lovingly restored and become part of the new downtown Durham revitalization begun by the restoration of the American Tobacco Company and the new Durham Bulls Park.

The house lies within Durham's Holloway Street neighborhood, and both the Holloway Street Local and National Register Historic Districts, making the house eligible for restoration tax credits. In North Carolina both state and federal income tax credits are available for the certified rehabilitation of historic structures. For the rehabilitation of owner occupied homes certified historic structures (non-income producing properties) a 30% state tax credit is available. For more information on Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits contact HPSD (contact info above) or the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office at 919-733-6547 or at www.hpo.dcr.state.nc.us
